IP&E ABL playoff: WCC Hammers, Stingers advance to Final Four

Teams WCC Hammers and Stingers showed why they lead the league as they defeated separate rivals to advance to the Final Four of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

WCC Hammers stormed their way into the semifinals after besting PCC Mesekiu, 94-83 Wednesday night. WCC Hammers displayed their eagerness to move on to the next round after establishing a 58-35 lead at the end of the first half.

Although PCC Mesekiu tried to comeback to the game as they spurted a 21-13 run in the third canto to cut the lead at 71-56. But their efforts were enough as they logged behind in the final quarter as WCC Hammers’ full court press paved way for them to score the win.

Brandon Harvey paced the way for WCC Hammers with 30 points as teammate and playmaker Michael Williams chipped in 17 while Dougwin Franz topscored for PCC Mesekiu also with 30 baskets as Nena Tilfas added 16 on the losing end.

On the other hand, team Stingers barged their way into the semis as they escaped with an 83-81 victory over team Meda.

Douglas Schmidt led all scorers as he finished the game with another strong one clutching 33 markers while Traxx Mark led Meda with 21 on the losing end.

With the wins, WCC Hammers remain as the number one seeded team while the Stingers take the second seeded squad in the league.

The Final Four will start their hardcourt action tonight as Stingers take on Nationals 17 and Under team in the curtain raiser at 6 p.m. as WCC Hammers face off with Ksau Imaging Solutions in the main game at 7:30 p.m.

The Final Four will be a best of three series format with Game Two set on Monday with Ksau Imaging Solutions against WCC Hammers at 6 p.m. while Nationals 17 and Under will meet Stingers in the night cap at 7:30 p.m.

Winners of the semifinals will advance to the best of three championship series while the losers will battle for third place honors.

In other games, Nationals 17 and Under won over Ngermid Rivals, 74-73; Ksau Imaging Solutions bested Airwaves, 84-71; PCC Mesekiu defeated Breakers, 75-70; and Meda dubbed Papago Smooth, 99-45.
