WU claims third as FR Spoilers takes Game One

Western Union fought a gallant stand as they overcome a tough Surangel and Sons, 99-94 in overtime and claim third place honors of the 2012 Filipino Basketball League (FBL), Sunday at the Palau National gym.

Trailing 88-86 with less than 14 seconds left in the game, Surangel and Sons’ Arnold Undecimo tied the game after sinking his free throws to tie the game at 88-all. Western Union called for time to orchestrate their offense, but as play resumed they were not able to score the final shot that send the game in over time.

In the extension period, Western Union did not waste any time as they outscored Surangel and Sons to win the game and take third place for this season. Dennis Castro and rookie Nino Cajegas topscored for Western Union with identical 29 points, respectively while Arnold Undecimo finished with 46 markers for Surangel and Sons in the losing end.

On the other hand, FR Spoilers started their title retention campaign as they defeated MJ Rangers, 102-91 in Game One of their best of three championship series.

FR Spoilers scoring machine Michael Bombita and Coco Gonzales led the onslaught finishing the game with 30 and 20 points, respectively while Nico Hinoza paced the Rangers with 42 points.
