FR Spoilers win IP&E NBL title

Taking advantage of their height and deadly outside shooting, FR Spoilers went on to beat Peched Raw, 120-102 to win the championship crown of the 2012 season of the IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) Tuesday night at the Palau National gym.

Down 91-90 going into the final quarter, the Spoilers bank on the team of Coco Gonzales, Michael Bombita, Mark Pagayanan and Raul Osias as they orchestrated a 30-11 run that earned them the win and the title.

It was a hard fought game for the Spoilers who were trailing all the way despite their shooting touch. The Spoilers logged behind at the end of the first half via 66-62 with the final canto as the pivotal moment that sealed the series with a 2-1 count.

The Spoilers took Game One, 94-81 while Peched Raw came back in Game Two, 97-92.

Pagayanan paced the Spoilers as he muscled his way inside the paint finishing with 31 points as Bombita, who was celebrating his birthday that day, chipped in 30 markers. Douglas Schmidt topscored for Peched Raw with 23 while teammate Dennis Castro added 22.

Despite the lost, Schmidt was named as Season MVP while Peched Raw’s mentor Atley Kazuma was named Coach of the Year. Spoilers’ Gonzales was awarded as the Rookie of the Year while Bombita was judged as the Finals MVP.

Trophies were awarded to the winners by IP&E area manager Frank Kyota immediately after the championship game.
