M15BT DAY TWO

Tuesday opened with a one sided men’s game of Guam playing the very small Belau team. While Guam stamped their dominence from the beginning, the young Belau players did not stop trying and improved their score ratio to their opposition through each quarter. For Guam Justin Dimla and Jeddou Antonio contributed 18 and 13 respectively and for Belau Medermel Yaoch had 13 and Cody Ngiraungil had 9.

The 11.00am game between Guahan and CNMI was expected to be close and so it was through the first quarter with Guahan leading by just 2 points at the break. Guahan lifted their intensity in the second quarter to have a comfortable 10 point lead at the long break. From there Guahan simply powered away and with only 7 players in their team CNMI could not keep up and the game ended in a 71-41 win to Guahan. For Guahan, Dialo Cruz had a game high 23 points and Randall Diego contributed 13. CNMI’s main scorer was Ethan Manalili with 8.

As expected the women’s game between Belau and Guam wasa blow-out with the very small and undermanned Belau team never in the hunt as Guam blasted away to huge score.

The Palau and CNMI women’s game was expected to be another close encounter and this proved to be correct throughout the game. At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at 10 points each and at half time it was 19-18 in favor of Palau. CNMI managed to get a small break by three quarter time at 32-29. In the dying minutes it was CNMI that had the better form with their superior height and ran out winners by 46-39. For CNMI Jeraldine Castillo led all scorers with 15 while Krizandra Gozon had 10. Palau’s main scorer was Diliaur Kumaichi with 13 and she was ably supported by Mahealani Adelbai with 12.

The Belau and CNMI men’s game seemed to most to favor a win for CNMI but someone forgot to tell the smaller Belau team who took it to their opponenets from the beginning to be just 8 points down at half time. Belau continued to stay in touch through the third qurter but the extra height of CNMI’s Christian Mizer proved a problem in closing the gap and CNMI ran out winners by 86-56. CNMI had major scorers in Ethan Manalili with 23 and Christian Mizer with 13. For Belau Mederemel Yaoch continued his good tournament form with a game high 24 ponts and was assisted by Ngirblush Tmetuchl and O’Brien Ngermaes with 8 each.

The Palau community came in numbers to support the Palau team against their arch rivals Guam in the 7.00pm game. Palau started well and was very competitive for the first 3 minutes causing the Guam coach to take an early time-out to get things in order.   While Guam got a 9 point lead by quarter time, Palau made several efforts to come back in the second quarter but each time Guam exerted their dominence to pull away again. The third quarter was close with Palau managing to win the quarter and had the Palau crowd thinking of a possible win but then Guam displayed the power than other teams have come to expect over many years and simply out classed their opposition to win the fourth quarter by 17 points and the game by 88-50. For Guam their scoring was again evenly spread with Kurtis Silvia scoring 22 points and Jose Candosa 19. Marvic Ngchar continued his excellent tournament form and added 16 points to his tally while RB Dorado also had another good game scoring 13 points.
