EIGHT MEDALS ALREADY !
It is not the best criterion of success or achievement but gold medals in three events so far must mean something! We sent seven athletes. The six boys already have at least one medal each ! The Finals results (subject to final confirmation) show the following:-
Mens Shot. Winner Raobu Tarawa with 12.88m. (Position to be confirmed.)
Mens High Jump. Winner David Birati with 1.81m. Second was George David with 1.75m.
Mens 100m. Second was Tanroo Taniera in 11.60. Fourth was Kiakia Tekambwa in 11.90.
Mens 4 x 400m. Relay. Winners were KAA "A" team. Buraieta/Tanroo/George/Kiakia in 3-38.62.
Women 100m. 7th. was Kaitinano Mwemweata in 14.12. (Heat 14.04)
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT ?
As has been stated before on this web-site, when we have to justify our team selection for a major Games funded by the Government,
it is an advantage to be able to quote tangible overseas success.
Currently we are asking the Government for substantial funds to send a delegation of 56 sports people to Rarotonga for the Pacific Mini Games. Success on Gold Coast might help to persuade them !
