RELAXED AND FED AND HAPPY !
The team from Kiribati, heading for the 3rd. Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in Pune, India, left Tarawa yesterday and arrived on time here in Nadi, Fiji, safe and well and with the sun shining !
By now they have caught up on their sleep, had some early exercise, and finished a picnic breakfast in the Apartments. Last night an informal team meeting helped to build a group feeling and everyone seems relaxed and happy.
The sports involved are Athletics, involving coach Eria Maeriua, with David Birati (High Jump and Triple Jump) and Raobu Tarawa (Shot and Discus); Table-Tennis, involving coach Bwebwe Kaureata, with players Ms Atea Tetabo and Nooa Takooa; Tennis, involving coach Peter Birati, with player Uere Katang; and Weight-Lifting, involving coaches Toare Toaneti and Teweti Tetau, with lifters Takenibeia Toromon, Taubena Tatonga, and Bonteatu Teoiaki. Thus the Chef de Mission, David Little, is looking after 13 others in the party.
OUR FIRST TIME.
Since this is our first venture to actually participate at this level, even though we have the results from Bendigo, Australia, from 2004, it is difficult to anticipate what might be achieved by this group. Suffice to say that, as was said last night, all we can expect is that all do their best in the circumstances, with the limitations that being a full-time student, studying for important exams, imposes !
We will see !
