DISAPPOINTING OUTCOME !
The offending airline (in terms of changing its schedules to save money) managed to arrange a "gap-filling" charter flight by Air Marshall Islands yesterday and today which brought passengers from Majuro this morning to connect with the "Our Airline" flight from Tarawa. In spite of several pleas, it appears that nothing similar can be arranged for next week. This means that any athletes from Marshall Islands will not get to the Tri-Rigger Meeting starting on June 15th.
BI-RIGGER !
Thus our new venture (only the second-ever international sports Meeting in Kiribati) is destined to be only a two-horse race, with teams from Nauru and Kiribati contesting the first Championship. We hope to stick to the programme originally suggested, starting with events on Friday evening and then completing the programme on Saturday morning.
RECIPROCATING !
This takes two forms. Firstly, on the weekend following "Tri-Rigger" there will be a 5k. "Olympic Day" Run in Nauru. Having been invited to send two athletes and one official to this well-sponsored event, the KAA Secretary, David Little, will accompany KAA Athletes' Commission rep. Tekooki Teieka (the male runner) and Banrenga Baikia (the female runner) for the weekend in Nauru. The other form of reciprocation will occur in 2008 and 2009 (hopefully and airlines permitting) when a team from Kiribati will go to Nauru and Majuro for the next staging of Tri-Rigger.
