SPRINTABILITY !
Having waited for the athletes, we started about 0845. The 100m. races produced two good performances, the better by Tanroo in a PB of 11.1 secs. In the Girls' race, Teriina ran strongly to finish in 14.5 secs. Both won comfortably. The two 400m. races were not particularly fast, Teriina winning the Girls' race in 1-25.0 and Taom winning a split race (2 Heats) in 59.3. In the 1500m., Rongoona was the more impressive in the Boys' race, breaking away with 200m. to go and winning in 5-27.5. For the Girls, Karetitaake won a tight finish with Genna in a slow 7-07.5.
BIG FIELDS for the FIELD EVENTS.
In the Long Jump, Teriina again proved her dominance winning with 4.33m. Eight girls jumped. Of the boys, Itinnaibo (Tim) used his speed and improving technique to win (by 2cm.) with 5.27m. Taom showed his versatility placing 4th. but again over 5m. A huge field of 21 boys jumped.
The Discus was less well-supported, but nine girls produced a winner in Lizzy with 22.72m. Itinikaeti beat ten other boys and showed the value of his regular training with a winning throw of 33.08m. Moutu (guesting) was 2nd. with 32.75m. Taom could not find his better technique and was disappointed to place 3rd. with 30.90m.
OLYMPIAN PRESENTER.
At the end of the competition, the athletes gathered in the Stadium (stand) and were rewarded with IAAF souvenirs - T-shirts, posters, certificates and pins. Olympian Kaitinano was again pleased to "do the honours". After the presentations, Athletes' Commission representative Tekooki addressed the group about some of the principles and value of regular training.
As on May 5th., even with the KAA President (Tierata) in Fiji and the Treasurer (Rianimarewe) in Brisbane doing Level 4, the rest of the Committee (and other helpers !) made sure that there was continuity. All was completed by 12 noon ! Thanks to them !
