ENCOURAGING PROGRESS.
The fact that Kiribati AA has managed to encourage the older athletes to participate in a second competition in six months must be an encouragement to those seeking to establish a growing group of older athletes who can act as role models for their younger, mostly school-age fellow-athletes.
In this competition, held on Saturday, May 25 at the Reuben K Uatioa National Stadium in Bairiki, there were 13 men in three age-bands (30-34, 35-39, and 40+), and 8 women (in the two younger age-bands).
The outstanding performances were on the field by the better participants in MShot and MDiscus. The only doubt is caused by the weights of implements not being published.
It was good to see three of the KAA Executive, Brian, Tekabara, and Nei Kairao, all taking part as well as helping to organise the meeting. It was also inspiring to see M'akaua, the holder of several Mens' long-distance records, still willing to compete and show a great example.
