Some great times were recorded by the three PNG athletes who took part in the2014 Gold Coast Half Marathon on July 6th with all three athletes finishing in the top 50 in a field of several thousand runners. Kupsy Bisamo recorded a time of one hour 12 min 14 seconds which is just 39 seconds outside his best time of 1:11.35, run at this event three years ago Hot on Bisamo’s heels was half marathon debutant Simbai Kaspar who ran a sensational 1hr 12min 24 seconds. National record holder Sapolai Yao clocked 1hr 13min 47 seconds. Whilst the results were very pleasing for PNG it should be noted that George Richmond of Tahiti who has dominated distance running at the Pacific Games since 1995 is still running very good times. Richmond, who is almost 50 years of age ran below 1hr 10 minutes at the Gold Coast Half marathon.
