FOOTBALL Hall of Fame WA Legend Ron Adair has proved that he can still pull on a pair of football boots and strutt his stuff  - even at the grand old age of 87!
Ron was kitted out as a guest of the newly-formed Blackwood United Masters team, which took on another set of newcomers, the Harvey SC  mens team, over the Labor Day Public Holiday long weekend in the south-west region.
And he showed he still has a tremendous enthusiasm for the game by taking the kick-off and staying on the pitch for a few more minutes.
Northern Ireland-born Ron first played in WA nearly 70 years ago when he joined Victoria Park in 1949.
He made his State debut at the age of 19 against an Australian eleven. He won First Division titles with North Perth (1952) and Swan Athletic (1957) and won the Ledger Medal for the 'Fairest and Best' player in three successive years - 1953 (North Perth), 1954 (Maccabeans) and 1955 (Azzurri).
As a defender he was known as the 'Iron Man' and was celebrated for his prodigious leap, often outjumping players much taller than him.
He has the distinction of playing in every State match during his WA career, being selected on 23 occasions, eleven of those as captain. He was in charge of WA when it finished runner up to New South Wales in the Inter-States carnival in Adelaide in 1954 when he was named the tournament's 'Best player'.
He represented Australia on 13 occasions, making his debut in Adelaide in a 5-0 win over China and capped off a fine performance by being named the 'Find of the Match'. He captained Australia against Vienna Rapid (1955) and Hearts (1959).
Ron was inducted into the Hall of Champions in 1996 - and was amongst the first group of players to be elevated to the Hall of Legends in 2005.
Another Hall of Fame inductee, Steve Hawkins, was also involved in the Blackwood Masters game.
Steve was inducted into the Hall of Recognition at the last Hall of Fame function in November, 2016. He was honoured for his long-term commitment to the game and his initiative in establishing a new club, and helping to create a new league, in rural areas.
Steve played around 800 games with Armadale, from juniors to semi-pro to vets and is a Life Member of the club. He moved to Balingup in 2000 and, along with his wife, started running training sessions at the local primary school.
This quickly grew and Steve established a club for juniors, men and women in the Balingup area, calling it Blackwood United FC, which now has fine grounds and floodlights.
Steve was full of praise for Ron's dedication to the game - and his commitment to the new Blackwood Masters venture.
"The game was a great day for Blackwood ufc and our sport - and sport in general," said Steve.
"One of the special moments of the day was the fact the our team had two WA Hall of Famers take the field.
Ron Adair is 87 years young and played 20 odd game for WA and 13 games for Australia back in the day.
Both Ron and myself now live in Greenbushes so it was a great coup for the region and our sport.
"Well done Ron for donning the boots once again and I hope you pull up OK - and well done to Blackwood for keeping us all alive and well.
"Ron took the kick off and stayed on the park for about ten minutes or so. He joined us for the half time chat/banter and then watched most of the second half."
