CONGRATULATIONS are due to Ashley Morrison who is doing his bit to put Australia - and Western Australia, in particular - on the world football map.
Perth-based Ashley wears many hats. He has his own radio sports show; is an entrepreneur extraordinaire responsible for the visits to WA of the likes of former England star Peter Barnes; has been the Master of Ceremonies at several Hall of Fame functions and has starred for the Hall of Fame/WA Media team in the "Football Ashes" series against the English media on several occasions.
But he is also an awarding-winning documentary film-maker.
His documentary, No Apologies, has set a new standard amongst football-themed films in Australia - and has picked up many awards and commendations.
No Apologies charts the stories of two Aboriginal girls from either side of Australia and their journey to the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup - Kyah Simon, who was born and raised in New South Wales, and Lydia Williams, born in Western Australia and raised in Kalgoorlie, prior to moving to Canberra.

The documentary has recorded several moments in Australian football history, as Kyah became the first Aboriginal male or female to score at a World Cup Finals.
When the two girls were on the pitch together against Equatorial Guinea it was the first time two Aboriginal players had been on the pitch at the same time at a World Cup Finals - and, of course, Lydia became the first Aboriginal goalkeeper to play at a World Cup Finals.
The film has been recognised overseas where FourFourTwo magazine in the UK listed it as one of the "Top Five Football Documentaries to watch before you die.”
No Apologies has also picked up SEVEN international awards including Best Documentary and Best Editing in a Documentary  at the Southampton International Film Festival.
The film also received a Gold Award at the Documentary and Short International Movie Awards for best Asia- Pacific Documentary. It will be appearing in the Showcase event at the Lucerne International Film Festival in October.
Ashley is currently trying to raise funds to complete his next projects - a boxing documentary on Africa’s first world champion who is in the record books as French, and a rugby story about a club that produced three internationals who then went on to win the Victoria Cross.
