Bayswater get the job done against Subiaco

Report by Jayden Lihou

Bayswater City have moved to equal second on the PS4 NPLWA ladder after they defeated Subiaco 3-1 in their round 2 catch up match at Finance 365 Stadium on Sunday.

A brace from Gustavo Marulanda was the difference as Bayswater move just one point behind Inglewood who hold top spot.

Coach Chris Coyne said that he was pleased with how his side performed and in particular Marulanda at a stage of the season where it’s all about results.

“I was really pleased with Gustavo (Marulanda) today,” he said. “He was very confident in front of goal and he never looked like he was going to miss.”

“The title is Inglewood’s to lose, so we have to keep believing that if we do things properly at our end we’ll get that one opportunity that we need.

“The only thing we can do now is keep grinding out results and then we’ll see where we end up in the next five weeks.”

Bayswater opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Luka Ninkovic’s first-time effort found the back of the net after the ball fell to him inside the box.

Bayswater made it two on the stroke of half time in a swift counter attack after defending a corner. The clearing ball was played to Bor Bor Sam who made a run from half-way into the opposition box before laying the ball off to Gustavo Giron Marulanda who slotted the ball past the keeper.

Bayswater made it 3-0 in the 58th minute when Ninkovic made a run into the box before passing the ball to an open Marulanda who scored through the legs of keeper to get his second.

The visitors scored a consolation goal with just three minutes of standard time remaining when Feely dribbled his way past several defenders before firing an effort low into the bottom corner.

Subiaco coach Ian McMurray had to settle with a 3-1 score line against a confident Bayswater side.

“I thought we had a good chance to get a result today but we just weren’t at our best,” he said.

“We could have had a couple more goals today but when you’re playing against a quality team like Bayswater who are pushing for the league you’ve got to take your chances and unfortunately for us we didn’t do that today.”
