Rockingham City claimed three vital points in their bid to stay in the NPL WA as they hammered Armadale 5-0 at SafeRad Stadium on Saturday.

Rockingham bought their best to the DT38 Round 13 game to move to within a point of ninth-place Armadale, who could not match their energy and commitment.

James Harmer opened the scoring on 21 minutes with a low shot from distance which escaped keeper Sam Hutchings' grasp and rolled over the line, with teenager Robbie Galvin following up to make sure.

Riley Van Deiken swiftly followed up on the heels of Galvin, sinking the ball into the net two minutes later.

Rockingham's veteran goalkeeper Cyril Sharrock demonstrated his worth with a brilliant triple save to ensure Armadale were denied a lifeline before the break.

Rockingham's third goal on 58 minutes was one Armadale will want to forget. A straight ball down the middle resulted in Harmer running in on goal unopposed from just inside his own half. Hutchings came to meet him but tripped and could only watch impotently as the Rockingham skipper slotted into the unguarded net.

More poor defending allowed Van Deiken head home his second on 83 minutes, while Harry Collins made it five in the 90th minute as Armadale's rearguard collapsed.
