MATCH WRAP: Thrills and spills in Round One action

Champions Bayswater City immediately hit their stride, newcomers Forrestfield United earned a point and Perth Glory sprung a surprise on the opening weekend of the NPLWA season.

Twenty-one goals were scored in round one of the competition with the spoils shared by Inglewood United and Stirling Lions, who drew 2-2, ECU Joondalup and Sorrento (1-1) and newly promoted Forrestfield and Night Series champions Floreat Athena (1-1).

Glory got their campaign off to a flying start with a 1-0 win over league heavyweights Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens, while Armadale beat Joondalup United 3-0 and Cockburn City edged out Night Series finalists Subiaco, 2-1.

Bayswater, who won their last 11 games in 2017 to claim the league title and Top Four Cup, were 3-0 up against Balcatta and ran out 4-2 winners at Frank Drago Reserve.

While delighted with the win, Bayswater coach Chris Coyne warned there was better to come from his side.
