Sorrento power past Inglewood

Sorrento surged into fifth place in the PS4 National Premier Leagues WA with a 3-1 win at Inglewood United, despite a valiant effort from the hosts.

Both teams had openings early on, but the Gulls broke the game open eight minutes before the break thanks to a fine free-kick from Niccolo Sabatini.

Adam Luca gave Sorrento a two goal buffer moments later, but Inglewood rallied in the second half and pulled one back when Kenny Keogh found the top corner.

But Sorrento held firm as Jack Salter poked past Aleks Vrteski with three minutes to play, and coach Jamie Harnwell was pleased his side managed to capitalise on their opportunities, despite having to weather a storm from Inglewood.

“By the end of the first half, we could have led 4-0,” he said.

“We created the chances, but then to get two goals in quick succession eased the pressure a bit.

“They had to come out in the second half and respond and they did that well. It was a great goal, fair play to him (Keogh), but I was still confident we could win the game.

“We managed to restrict them to a few chances, but it was nice to get the third and relax a little bit.”

Harnwell also acknowledged that while his squad had work to do to reach their peak, he was feeling good about the rest of the season.

“We’ve got a lot of new players that have come in, so we’re trying to get them to play the way I want to and we’re making progress,” he said.

“If we keep working on that, the results should take care of themselves.”
