In the Stands: Joe Wright - West Adelaide

In our new segment, we're highlighting the lives of our player's away from football.

Our first instalment is with West Adelaide's Joe Wright.

Joe, a barber with a year's experience has recently opened The Royal Moody on Glenelg's Jetty Road in partnership with Glenn Watson.

They opened their doors on September 1 and have experienced a whirlwind six weeks.

The duo were good enough to answer some questions for us and a summary of our Q and A session is below.

FFSA: Joe, what do you like about being a barber?

JW: I love my job, meeting new people each day combined with the PlayStation 4 NPL lads that swing through makes for a good laugh. Trying to make some of them look half decent is a task though - especially Alex Rideout!

What plans do you have for the shop?

JW: We're taking appointments Monday through Thursday which is keeping us on our toes. Walk ins on Friday and Saturday too so it's been crazy busy.

We're going to have to invest in a third chair shortly, and get our studio in the back half of the shop going so we can produce our own merch!

We also throw the odd shop party which is always a laugh.

How did your 2016 PS4 NPL Season go with West Adelaide personally?

JW: Personally last year was a write-off for me, missing pre-season and playing catch up after breaking my leg in the week of the 2015 Grand Final set me back a bit physically and mentally.

I'm itching to get back to pre-season this year and come back fully fit and build on what we did last year.

What needs to change or improve for next season to be better?

JW: Everyone has a point to prove, we finished well under expectations last season and we've got the original group together now so there's no excuses.

We're a tight bunch and I know everyone is hurt and eager to get back to it.

Star player Alex Rideout has signed for next season too - you heard it here first!

What plans do you have for after you've finished playing semi-professionally?

JW: After I finish playing I wouldn't mind getting into coaching. It's something I've always talked about so I wouldn't mind giving it a crack! (I've got a short temper though so could be a short career).

Football has its ups and downs but I'd miss playing and the banter with the boys too much so I can't see myself stepping away anytime soon.

What is Joe like as a worker?

Glenn Watson, The Royal Moody: As a worker Joe is pretty much like what I've seen of him as a player - short tempered and whinging!

Nah, he's a great worker, always up for a laugh and sets a good vibe in the shop. His haircuts aren't half bad too!

Many thanks for your time, boys. Good luck with the shop!

The Royal Moody is at 101 Jetty Road, Glenelg. Open six days per week, their contact details and opening hours are listed on their Facebook page.
