The Eltham-Dandenong Junior Basketball Tournament is one event we were all lucky to have eventuate in 2020 and 2021. Organisers have remained patient and worked hard behind the scenes as to how a 2022 event might look. We’ve endeavoured to work in coordination with the VJBL and in consultation with dozens of associations. Following this consultation the Eltham and Dandenong associations have coordinated a plan that will allow 2022 to have a focus on ‘Welcome Back.’
Note that this year we have a closing date of Sunday 9th January so that we have suitable time to fixture the event. There will be no refunds available following 15th January.
Our tournament for 2022 has been scheduled to the dates of Friday 28th January to Sunday 30th January.
As we all progress out of COVID however, things are going to look different. Fixturing will be simplified, whereby grades of competition will be based in hubs. We received a lot of positive feedback from teams being able to see other teams in their competition playing at the same time.
Knowing the rush we’re all facing to select our Junior Championship teams, we’ve removed the ‘Team Entry’ fee and like 2021, have made a player registration fee. The intent here is to take the pressure off a Club or a Team Manager forking out money for a team that’s only recently been created. We will guarantee 3 games per team (plus finals) and have again slashed the registration fee for the tournament.
The aim of both Eltham and Dandenong for our 2022 is to run a COVID safe event with a focus on making this a welcoming return to the sport we all love. This is an incredible event that the Eltham and Dandenong associations are honoured to host. We hope to see you and your members back at the Eltham-Dandenong Junior Basketball Tournament for 2022.
Eltham and Dandenong Basketball Associations combine their tournament in order to generate strong competition across all grades and age groups.
A Grades: start in pools based on location, then combine the Eltham and Dandenong sides of the tournament to determine one champion.
A Reserve Grades: similar or same as above.
B and C Grades: Usually multiple B and C grades/divisions run by Eltham and Dandenong. Teams only play in the Eltham or Dandenong section and there is no crossover.
Domestic grades: No representative players are eligible. Eltham normally operate a separate division for domestic teams. Dandenong normally combine them with low C Grade teams
When choosing to participate on the Eltham or Dandenong (DBA) side, you do so knowing that the only difference is that of geographical locations of the stadiums utilised.
If you choose to play on the Eltham side, games are played at venues across the eastern and northern suburbs with some games on the western suburbs. No different to past years, there will be over a month spent fixturing to ensure travel is reduced. If your team is based or has accommodation in a certain region of Melbourne, then your games will be based close to you. Ie. Nunawading will not need to travel to Keilor to play.
If you choose to play on the Dandenong side, then games are played at main stadiums in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
