Our History
We formed as a panel with the amalgamation of the Barossa & Light Football Association with the Gawler Football Association in 1987. Both panels already had established umpires panels and both came together to train under the inaugural coach Richard Davis at Gawler Oval.
From that time we have existed as the Barossa Light & Gawler Umpires Association. Former & current Senior Coaches include the following:
Richard Davis
Zok Okunieff
Kym Baker
Paul Little
Bo Lambert
Tony 'Bones' Hurn
Chris Bonython
Andre Boers
Mark Pfitzner
Dave Underwood
Phil Fechner & Peter Mitchell
Terry Jeffery
Peter Dunstan
Carl Whitaker
Ian Dew
Sarah-Jane Jameson
Mark Miels
Matt Patterson
We have trained at Gawler Oval, Willaston Oval, Riggs Reserve (South Gawler), Nuriootpa Oval, Lyndoch Oval and Greenock. We are now based ain Willaston, at Elliot Goodger Reserve.
We have always had a close association with the league's goal umpires, sharing change rooms and support for each other over our entire history.
We have had umpires successfully move onto AFL & SANFL careers. We also take pride in the longevity of some of our local umpires, characters such as AJ Jeffrey, Bones Hurn, Spot Farey, Mark Pfitzner, and the list goes on.

Our Future
We train at Willaston Oval (Elliot Goodger Reserve). This magnificent oval is arguably one of the best football surfaces in our league and will present a brilliant training opportunity for our umpires.
We aim to provide a commitment to all clubs to provide a quality service of umpiring to country standard at all age levels.
We look to build on our already stable numbers always keen to recruit those new to umpiring and those looking to return.
Many hold our panel as being the best country panel in SA.
We are looking to recruit umpires to our sport. We believe that in our panel you can gain fitness, learn new skills, build your confidence and earn pocket money. Pretty attractive offer!
Please consider supporting our panel.
Whilst we would prefer that umpires are respected by the crowd, we understand that spectactors have a great passion for the club they support. If you see an umpire in a Blue shirt, they are learning their trade. We particularly ask that you do not abuse these umpires as they are the future of our umpiring prospects.
