Membership FAQs

A few frequently asked questions regarding membership.

I just want to become a Referee for the first time - what do I do?

Sorry, but we do not run courses for new match officials - have a look at the Football NSW website under Referees for more information!

Can I just join as an Assistant Referee?

Yes you can!

What do I have to submit with my application?

For now just send us an email to hello@nswfootballreferees.au

You will eventually need your FFA Number and your Working With Children Check number, so it wont hurt to keep them handy.

Working With Children Check

It is Football NSW policy that every referee 18 years of age and older must obtain and submit a WWC number as an Employee.

Which documents do I need for overseas qualifications?

Overseas qualifcations and experience needs to be verified and assessed by a Technical Committee and converted to an appropriate equivalent Australian qualification.

You will need to provide basically the same information as an Australian referee would provide in a clearance letter.

  1. Copies of certificates showing your qualifications (with translation if not in English)
  2. A summary of your refereeing experience over the last three seasons, with an explanation into the level of football (e.g. second highest national competition, third highest local competition, senior/adult football, junior football)
  3. A letter from your previous referees association
    1. confirming your qualifications and experience
    2. confirming that you are not under any suspension or disciplinary action
    3. confirming that you do not owe any monies to them

What about uniforms?

We'll send you the relevant information at the right time as your application progresses.

For now continue to wear your existing referees uniform, even if that ends up extending into the start of the season - which is much earlier than before!

Can I start training with the State League Branch?

Yes you can!

Training is held every Tuesday night at Mona Park #3, Auburn from 7:00pm - 8:30pm.

Check out the details on the Training page under the Members Information menu.
