WESTERN DISTRICT UMPIRES ASSOCIATION INC
JOB PROFILES
PRESIDENT:-
· To chair all General Meetings and Executive Committee Meetings of the Association.
· To have the right to attend all subcommittee meetings of the Association in an ex-officio capacity
· To liaise with and assist all other Executive Members in the carrying out of their respective directorial duties.
· To work with the appropriate representatives of the Leagues for the good of the Western District Umpires Association and Australian Rules Football.
VICE-PRESIDENT -DIRECTOR OF UMPIRING :-
· The main role of this director is to keep harmony amongst all members of the Association and to fill in the President’s position when he is unable.
· Jobs for this director at the beginning of the season include:- Recruit and nominate the following positions within this Association - Umpires’ Adviser, Appointments Board Panel, Umpire Observers, Appointments Board Secretary, Training Supervisors, Tribunal Secretary. All these positions report to the Director of Umpiring.
· Liaise with all of the above people and sort any problems/queries as quickly as possible by seeking all possible resources.
· Attend executive meetings and report all activities to the executive each month.
· Liaise with other neighbouring Umpires Associations (Ararat and District, South East Football Umpires League).
· Liaise with the executive of our customers, the Leagues we service (Western Border, Mininera, Hamilton Juniors).
· Be responsible for the implementation of all Umpire Level Accreditations.
· Be a resource to all members of the Association and the Leagues we service
SECRETARY:-
· To be responsible for written documentation relating to all Association General and Executive Committee Meetings.
· To keep members informed about the operations of the Association
· To communicate with individuals and groups as directed by the Association Executive .To provide a monthly report at each Executive Committee Meeting.
TREASURER:-
· To be responsible for the financial operations of the Association
· To pay umpires and other officials according to the agreed amounts as determined by the Executive Committee.
· To liaise with the Appointments Board and Junior Development Secretaries in monitoring the fees payable to each member umpire
· Payment of Umpires’ Fees - by cheque and bank deposit
· Taxation - Deduction of Tax out of fees.
· Preparation of Group Certificates
· Work Cover - Filling in Claim Forms for injured Umpires. These to be sent to our Insurer. Payment of Work Cover Premium.
· Provident Fund Deductions from fees.
· Keeping up to date total games umpired by umpires.
· Sending out of accounts for Umpires’ Services - fees, travelling, tribunal travel etc., practice match accounts.
· Banking of money from leagues and preparing of Financial statements for executive meetings
· Payment of accounts in the day to day running of the Association.
· Keeping a good stock of uniforms for umpires. Distribution of Umpires’ Uniforms. Ordering of Umpires’ Uniforms.
· Ordering of trophies at end of season.
DIRECTOR OF RECRUITMENT/JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT
· To be responsible for the management of the Junior Development Programs of the Association.
· To plan, implement and manage the recruitment and retention program of the Association.
· To liaise and work closely with the Director of Promotions/Media in organising the sponsorship of the Junior Development Programs.
· To provide a monthly report at each Executive Meeting
· To appoint Training Supervisors for Junior Development at the 3 centres Of Hamilton, Portland and Casterton
· To keep tally of games and payments of Junior Umpires
DIRECTOR OF RECREATIONAL/SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
· To be responsible for preparing programs of recreational/social activities for umpires and families.
· To be responsible for Social Committee, Bar Manager and other committees to implement above program.
· To be responsible for overseeing the hiring of and cleaning of club rooms.
· To provide monthly reports at each executive meeting from Bar, Social Committee Treasurer.
DIRECTOR OF MEDIA/PROMOTIONS
Profile
Director of Media/Promotions is responsible for the media responses of the Association and for the pursuit and promotion of umpiring through the various media available. The obtaining and maintenance of sponsorship is also another key role for this director.
Strategy
The Director’s strategy for fulfilment of duties is to be aware of media available for use to fulfil requirements (including various contacts within them) and also to be aware of contacts within the umpiring fraternity to be able to resource to assist with duties.
Action Plans
1.Contact with AFL, VCFL representatives or similar to use in Promotions
Contact to be made with VCFL prior to the commencement of season to arrange a senior AFL Umpire to visit schools in the area and to attend a training night with all umpires and coaches in the area.
2.Monthly Segments in Local Media
Contact to be made with local radio and print media to arrange small segment once a monthly to promote events and umpiring in general. All important milestones and events to be included in this.
3.Media Responses to Issues
All media responses to issues affecting Association will be handled by the director and will only be authorised by himself and/or the President of the Association. No unauthorised responses will be accepted by the Executive, and will be dealt with accordingly.
4.Liaison with Leagues
The Director of media/promotions ,in conjunction with the Director of Umpiring, will make himself known to the league secretaries and promotions people to foster relations between Western District Umpires Association and their leagues. This will include arrangements for Director of Umpiring and senior umpires to address various clubs within these leagues to further foster our relationships. This arrangement will be coordinated by league officials and the director of Media/Promotions.
5.VCFL
Contact to be made with this organisation through the relevant promotions person to be kept up to date with current promotions occurring, and to be able to form a uniform approach within this area.
6.Sponsorship
To contact all current sponsors is a priority to establish continuance for coming season and to seek new appropriate sponsors to replace or extend to current. Also separate sponsorship for junior development, in conjunction with relevant director.
7.Reporting
The Director will report monthly at each Executive Meeting.
