Official Va'a Closing tonight
The official closing of the Va'a championships will take place tonight, Saturday 26 Sept. It will be held at the Whatever Bar and Grill in Avarua and be the ideal set up to end four long days of oe vaka.

Tahiti clean sweeps medals
Team Tahiti has triumphed in the Va'a championships and will be taking home all 10 Gold Medals. The teams latest glory came with todays V6 marathon races, that saw both the mens and womans crew taking out first place.

Dearlove plucks Oe Vaka Silver
There were no surprises when Tahiti took out both gold medals at yesterday’s oe vaka V1 10km (women) and V1 15km (men) races.

Tahiti Woman V6 Victory
Team Tahiti has once again snatched the Gold Medal in the Womans V6 20km Marathon at Avarua today. The team led the pack from the starting line, then managed to put distance between them out past Club Raro. They managed to hold the lead through the race and took home the Gold Medal.

Silver for Cook Islands
Team Cook Islands V1 15km representative, Reuben Dearlove took out second in todays marathon single race. The determination of Tahitian paddler, Teva Rete Ebb was not match for the Cook's as Tahiti lead from the beginning of the race and pulled it through to the end. Teva managed to pull infront of the pack with a 200m lead by the end of the race. Reuben clocked in a time of 1 hr 20 min and 58

Tahiti could triumph
Team Tahiti could be well on their way to taking out all Gold medals in the competition. The team currently holds 8 of the 10 Gold medals, and recieved them at the ceremony today at Avarua Harbour.

Smiles with Kuki
As if the excitement of the final V1 races weren't enough. Kuki the Mascot flew in for photos and hugs from the atheletes and volunteers at the Avarua Harbour today. Kuki greeted in the V1 woman Gold medalist Tahitian winner, Hinatea Bernadino who completed the 10km course in a time of 1 hour 1 minute and 28 sec.

Tahiti whitewash in va’a sprints
The oe vaka or va’a sprint finals yesterday were a Tahiti whitewash as the red army won all six finals.

Chilling out after the va’a
Okaro Yogi, Michael Henao and Lydia Sagati were quite happy to discuss today’s successes and failures on the water at Muri where they participated in the va’a section of the Pacific Mini Games.

Canoes Blessed
After much time waiting for the weather to clear, the blessing of the canoes began took place this morning on Muri Beach. The blessing of the vakas (canoes) both V1 and V6 was performed by Pastor Ngarima George. George was accompanied by two representatives from each participating country to officially cut the rauti and break the Nu (coconut).

Freezing Start but still a Great Day
Despite the unexpected weather disaster down in Muri today, all teams gave the sprints there best and supported eachother right to the very end. The wind started to pick up after first few races and the rain wasn't giving up either. Raincoates and colourful umbrellas were plentiful and coloured up the beach with spectators and supporters bunched together to cheer on their teams.

Lanes set to go
After much effort from the technical teams and volunteers, the lanes are now ready for the sprints. The lanes are set so races will begin from the shore markers and then extend 250m towards the reef. The lanes will be used for the sprints that include the V1 500m and the V6 500m and 1500m.

Team Managers briefed
Sunday at 1pm va'a team managers were briefed on the procedures that will become effective as of opening day on Wednesday 24th September. The meeting was an oppotunity for all countries to voice any concerns they had in terms of canoe allocations, lane allocations, safety and the general competition runnings.

Team Cook Islands gear up for Games
The National Canoeing team topped their last intense training session on Saturday 12th September with the launch of their team uniform. Minister of Sport Aunty Ngamau Munokoa was pleased with the turnout and proud to see the sport grow. "It's your spirit, no one else, we only give you al little bit of help," she said. "You do it, you're the ones." Aunty Mau said the whole country is behind the team.
