Somerset Basketball Club Athlete Code of Conduct
Our club has a responsibility to ensure participation in all club events is free of any antisocial
behaviour, both on and off the court. Therefore, as an athlete of the Somerset
Amateur Basketball Association, I agree to abide by the following code of conduct at all
games, trainings, and club functions.
1. I will treat all athletes and officials (coaches, managers, club staff and referees) with
the utmost of respect at all times. I understand that Somerset Amateur Basketball
Association has a zero-tolerance policy toward abuse in any form.

2. I will maintain high standards of personal behaviour at all times so as not to damage
my personal reputation or the reputation of the Somerset Amateur Basketball
Association. This includes controlling my emotions, displaying positive body
language, refraining from the use of poor language, and having a positive attitude
towards my teammates and coaches.

3. I will refrain from making any negative comments about my teammates, coaches, or
other SABA officials on any social media platform – including in group chats. I will
strive to make sure that my communication makes my teammates feel included and
welcomed.

4. I will bring issues to the attention of my coach, team manager or parent and allow a
process to be followed to resolve these issues.
5. I will disclose any injuries or illnesses to my coaches and support staff so that they
can have the adequate information required to provide a duty of care to me, as an
athlete.

6. I will discuss any potential load management issues with the Basketball Development
Officer so that adequate processes can be arranged to cater for my well-being.
7. I agree to abide by the rules of competition and play in the spirit of the game. This
includes an emphasis on teamwork, effort, and good sportsmanship.

 

Somerset Basketball Club Parental Code of Conduct
Our club has a responsibility to ensure participation in all club events is free of any antisocial
behaviour, both on and off the court. Therefore, as a parent of the Somerset Amateur
Basketball Association, I agree to abide by the following code of conduct at all games,
trainings, and club functions.

1. I will treat all athletes and officials (coaches, managers, club staff and referees) with
the utmost of respect at all times. I understand that Somerset Amateur Basketball
Association has a zero-tolerance policy toward abuse in any form.

2. I will maintain high standards of personal behaviour at all times so as not to damage
my personal reputation or the reputation of the Somerset Amateur Basketball
Association. This includes controlling my emotions, refraining from the use of poor
language, and having a positive attitude towards other club members. Parents or
spectators who consistently mock, yell or exhibit undesirable behaviour towards
coaches, players and/or referees, may be prohibited from attending SABA affiliated
events.

3. I acknowledge that the athletes are children who are participating in sport for their
own enjoyment.

4. I will refrain from making any negative comments about the club and any of its
players, officials, and staff on any social media platform. I will do my best to educate
my child around safe use of social media in a team environment.

5. I will bring issues to the attention of the Basketball Development Officer and/or club
officials to be dealt with in an appropriate manner.

6. I understand that my child is part of a collaborative team and that all decisions made
will be in the best interest of the team first.

7. I acknowledge that whilst I am a valued as an integral member of the team support
network, I accept that as a parent, I am external to the coaching infrastructure. I
agree to support and cooperate with all team officials and to acknowledge my role is
as a parent.
