DOUGLAS HEAT REPRESENTATIVE BASKETBALL
Douglas Heat had a very exciting year in 2015 in representative basketball, with good participation in the annual Top of the North tournaments at Atherton, Mareeba and Port Douglas.
The under 12 boys and girls, under 14 boys, and under 16 boys and girls all had the privilege of wearing our brand new Douglas Heat representative strip, thanks to a generous grant from Bendigo Bank and the uniform's Basketball Australia-endorsed design and print coming from Peak Sport Australia. The kids rep players are improving every year and we hope more exciting opportunities come for our juniors in 2016.
It was also a year of firsts for our adults players, with our inaugural men's representative team taking to the court against Mulgrave at Atherton in September. The Douglas Heat men's rep team was borne out of our first official adults comp starting in Port Douglas in 2015, and two more men's rep teams went ahead to play Mareeba in Mareeba and Port Douglas later in the year.
Our women players, who take it up to the men in the same adults intra-club comp in Port Douglas, made history on October 31, 2015, when the first Douglas Heat ladies rep team played Mareeba in Port Douglas at the Top of the North tournament. It was a fantastic achievement for our fledgling club to have mens and womens rep sides take formation inside three months and we look forward to many exciting clashes ahead against associations of Far North Queensland.
