ST ALBANS stalwart Zammy Muhtari will reach a rare milestone on the weekend.
A St Albans man through and through, Zammy, will play his 550th game of football against Caroline Springs on Saturday.
The talented footballer has been playing at Kings Park Reserve for 30 years.
Zammy said when he first began playing footy all those years ago, he never would have imagined reaching such a milestone.
He said he had been overwhelmed with all the messages congratulations from team mates, family, friends and others across the WRFL this week.
“It’s surprising to have played so many games,” Zammy said.
“I wasn’t aware of how many games I have played, I’m in shock to be honest. Time flies.”
Zammy said he grew up in the area and says he remembers watching his uncle play senior football for the Saints.
“I followed in his footsteps,” he said. “I used to watch him play all the time.”
Zammy said one of his favourite highlights over the journey was winning the 2014 Division 1 Reserves premiership.
“As you get older, it gets harder to win a premiership,” he said.
“So to have won that premiership towards the end of my career was pretty special.”
Zammy said the reason he keeps pulling on the boots each week was the people at the club.
“It is such a great club, the players, the coaches, all the juniors, the supporters, its everyone,” he said.
