THE WRFL has slipped one spot down the AFL Victoria Community Championships rankings after its loss to the Northern Football League on Saturday.
The WRFL now sits in seventh position on the rankings and will likely face the Ballarat Football League in 2018.
On Saturday, the NFL outmuscled the team from the west, losing by 125-points at Preston City Oval.
Only four-points separated the two sides at the first break, however it was one-way traffic after quarter time.
WRFL forward Jordan Staley made the most of his opportunities up forward, kicking two first half goals. Reece Miles also kicked two goals for the match.
Defenders Liam Cavanagh and Braden Ferrari fought valiantly, despite being under enormous pressure. Nayaf Hamad, Bol Kolanf and Josh Linton were also standouts for the WRFL.
Coach Anthony Eames awarded the best on ground medal to Liam Cavanagh.
After the match Eames said the NFL were too big and too strong on the day.
“Our guys kept having a crack and I am proud of each and every one who played and committed to the program,” he said.
“Our young kids from this group will certainly grow from this game and will learn something out of playing a good opposition.
“Hopefully we all stick around for next year and butter up again.”
