SUANFC is delighted to announce Tony Overall as the Club’s new Premier Division Coach for the upcoming 2017 season.
SUANFC’s GM Tristan Liles said:
“Tony is no stranger to the Club having done it all at SUANFC, he is a Life Member and has been team mate, club sponsor, coach and mentor to many. This wealth of experience, along with the fact that he is a highly trained, Level 2 AFL accredited coach, means the Club is extremely confident he and the team he will form around him is more than well-equipped to tackle the challenges of coaching Premier Division at Sydney’s largest AFL Club/only NEAFL Club.”
Winning a senior premiership in his first season with the club in 1997, Overall has juggled playing and coaching over the past 20 seasons at SUANFC (with a career in high level amateur football in Adelaide before that), taking charge of the senior side for the 2004 season, before coaching SUANFC’s reserve side in 2007 and 2008.
Overall returned to the senior coaching ranks in 2009,10,11 and 12 as the Senior Assistant Coach (Premier Division), before most recently undertaking the role of Club Coaching Director of the lower grades in 2013,14, 15 and working with the Sydney AFL representative side 4 times (once alongside newly appointed SUANFC NEAFL Coach Tom Morrison).
Along with working beside Tom Morrison, Overall has also worked with both Daniel Archer (former Eastlake and NT Thunder Senior Coach) and Roger Moten (former Sydney University NEAFL Senior Coach and current GWS Development Coach). He has finals experience second to none having been involved in some of the strongest playing groups and team cultures at the Club in recent memory.
“I’m very excited to be getting back into senior coaching in 2017 at SUANFC. It’s one of the great AFL clubs in NSW and a fantastic opportunity to have success and be involved in a great program” said Overall.
“I’m confident we will again be a force to be reckoned with in Premier Division. With some solid re-recruiting and a bigger focus on game day and strong coaching outcomes the expectations of our Premier Division program will be rising considerably.”
“There’s lots to do but a really strong team on and of field is coming together quickly. I can’t wait to get started.”
