Foxtel’s ‘The Recruit’ is premiering on Fox 8 tonight, and AFL Sydney and East Coast Eagle’s very own Jack Dimery will be one of the players fighting it out for a guaranteed position on an AFL club list. The Recruit is a 10-part reality series that follows a group of ‘Recruits’ who live and play together as a team, while at the same time competing against each other, in order to win this life-changing prize.
Jack started his football journey at Baulkham Hills Falcons in Auskick when he was 6. All of his junior years were spent at ‘Baulko’ where he finished Under 16s having played 180 games for the club. He had started training with the U18s East Coast Eagles in his U16s year and even played for East Coast in the 18s grand final when his Baulko team was knocked out for the season.
After seeing his impressive performances he was offered a NSW Scholarship by the Geelong Cats.
“I was obviously more than happy to accept, it’d be a 2 year scholarship up until I was eligible for the draft. Naturally I thought I'd transition into Under 18s footy and play with my mates, however the Eagles' senior coach at the time Glenn Garner called me up for a Premier Division practice match early in 09, and I must've impressed someone because I only played Premier Division games from then on.”
Jack went on to be part of the 2009 Premiership team as a 16 year old, and then won two more Premierships with the club in 2010 and 2011 winning the Rod Podbury medal in 2011.
Unfortunately for Jack, Geelong passed on drafting the talented youngster.
“Geelong decided I wasn't the player they were looking for and decided to not draft me after I played most of the year for the GWS TAC Cup team and a little bit with East Coast . I decided to stick with the club which resulted in me playing 3 years in the NEAFL with players like Ryan Houlihan and Amon Buchanan,
Jack has played over 100 games for the Eagles and loves the club and the people involved.
Tune in at 8.30pm tonight on Fox 8 to see East Coast Eagles and AFL Sydney player Jack Dimery battle it out for a spot on an AFL list. For a sneak peak, check out The Recuit website.
