Deer Park has moved into second position on the ladder with their fourth straight win after defeating Spotswood by 47-points at John McLeod Reserve.
Spotswood looked to be carrying on their momentum from last week when they took the lead early in the first quarter, but Deer Park snagged two late goals to lead by eight points at quarter time.
The Lions capitalised on their dominance in the second quarter with a five goal run to start the quarter before Spotswood kicked a couple late to drag the margin back to 28-points at half time.
Deer Park extended the margin out to 50-points in the third term with a four goal to none quarter and looked to be set for a big win going into the last break, but Spotswood fought in the last quarter and were able to bring the final margin back to 47-points in the muddy conditions.
Steele Aburrow was the Lions’ best and finished with four goals while ruckman Rusiate Komaitai looked strong up forward and kicked three.
Mickey Nicholls took a couple of good marks and kicked two goals for Spotswood while Joshua Drage was also impressive.
Werribee Districts held on against a fast-finishing Altona to win by one point at Soldiers Reserve.
A four goal to one first quarter gave the Tigers a 20-point margin at quarter time, they were then able to push out that lead to 25-points by the end of the third term due to Altona’s inaccurate kicking in front of goals.
Altona came out firing in the last term kicking five goals to one, but it wasn’t enough to set up a come-from-behind win as the Tigers held on by a single point.
Benjamin McMahon kicked three goals for the Tigers while Jackson Menadue and Aaron Law kicked two each.
Matthew Wright continued his excellent season with another good game for the Vikings and Joel Menadue was Altona’s only multiple goal scorer with three.
Yarraville Seddon scored an upset win at Yarraville Oval, beating Hoppers Crossing by 35-points.
After an even first half, the Eagles kicked away in the third and fourth quarters to take home the comfortable win.
Kyle Blake was Yarraville Seddon’s best with five goals and Liam Murray added two of his own. Chase Guy was the standout for Hoppers Crossing as no Warrior kicked multiple goals.
Deer Park will be looking for their fifth straight win when they travel to Hogans Road Reserve to take on Hoppers Crossing in Round 11. Spotswood take on Werribee Districts at McLean Reserve and Altona will meet Yarraville Seddon at Grant Reserve.
