THE WRFL is pleased to announce Meredith Angwin was elected as Acting President at Monday night’s Board meeting.
Ms Angwin will take the reins as president from the close of next scheduled Board meeting on May 9, 2016.
Ms Angwin joined the WRFL Board in February 2014 and has taken a keen and active role in all aspects of the Board’s business.
She is steeped in WRFL/FDFL history as the daughter of past President and Life Member Ron Angwin (dec.) and past Treasurer and Life Member Thelma Angwin.
Ms Angwin has a long and successful history in senior management roles, both in Australia and in Asia, with prominent companies such as IBM, PwC Consulting, Shell and National Australia Bank. She is currently engaged as Partner - Advisory at international consulting group Ernst & Young.
She takes on the role of Acting President after Bruce Mildenhall confirmed he and his wife Karen would be taking an extended stay in Greece and will be absent for at least six months.
Mr Mildenhall foreshadowed this news in his address at the WRFL Season Launch two weeks ago.
Since his election to the WRFL Board in December 2008, Mr Mildenhall has served with distinction as a Director; and as President since December 2013.
Mr Mildenhall and his wife Karen will embark on their Greek adventure with the best wishes of the Board and all WRFL stakeholders.
It is hoped he will find a way to resume his active Board membership in the future.
Vice President Barry Lovell also advised the Board he wished to resign from his role in order that the Board might have the opportunity to address longer-term succession planning.
Mr Lovell will remain as a director of the Board, with Paul Robinson appointed as the new Vice President.
Effectively, Mr Lovell and Mr Robinson have swapped positions on the Board.
Mr Robinson was elected to the Board in December 2013, following four years as President of Altona Juniors Football Club.
He was a foundation member of the WRFL Juniors Board from November 2010 and has served continuously on that body to this day and now as a representative of the WRFL Board.
All of the changes to Board positions will remain in effect until the 2016 Annual General Meeting, scheduled for November 29, 2016, at which time the normal election cycle will resume as provided in WRFL Rules.
WRFL CEO Bob Tregear welcomed the new appointments and said the WRFL Board remained committed to good governance in the interests of member clubs and the game in general; and to implementation of the recently adopted strategic plan.
