Pride Women Make It Two From Two

Western Pride Women recovered from a fourth-minute deficit to edge SWQ Thunder Women 2-1 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Goals either side of half-time from Pride’s Nikki Hubbard and Rahni Pritchard cancelled out Sarah Sheridan’s early opener at Gatton Soccer Club.
In their first match under new coach Keren Thomas, it was Thunder who started brightest as Sheridan was afforded too much space to shoot into the top left corner from outside the area.
The two teams exchanged opportunities until Nikki, who last week opened her Pride account, made amends for missing an earlier chance by beating Elizabeth Hollitt in a one-on-one.
Hubbard’s goal meant the two teams entered half-time level at 1-1 and scores remained locked for 15 minutes after the restart.
With half an hour remaining, Pritchard completed the comeback as the Pride teenager’s right-sided shot looped home for a 2-1 lead.
Thunder had the chance to restore parity with a pair of corners in stoppage time but were unable to prevent the visitors from making it two-in-two to start pre-season.
The Toowoomba team have the chance to square the ledger next Sunday when Pride again visit for a second meeting between the two sides.
