Lee, Warden Back For Red Devils
Words: Michael Flynn
Redlands United fans will cheer on two familiar faces in PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 with Michael Lee and Greg Warden returning to the club.
Defender Warden and midfielder Lee, both 25, are the latest signings for the Red Devils are they look to deliver the club their first PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland silverware this year.
The duo played together at the bayside club in 2014 before taking different paths last season – Warden spending much of the year travelling in the United States, while Lee joined Olympic FC.
Warden said he was excited to be back at the club he first joined as a junior and expects big things from himself and teammates.
“I was here two years ago but I came in half way through, so it’s good to get in for pre-season and have pre-season with the boys.”
“I think we have a very good squad and looking ahead I think we can challenge for the title.”
“If you look at the front five we have pace, we got goal scorers and creators. I think we can really score some goals this year.”
“We’re pretty solid at the back as well, but I think going forward on the counter attack teams will really struggle to defend against us.”
Lee is a former Blackburn Rovers Academy and Manchester United Academy player and boasts 14 goals in 55 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland appearances for the Redlands and Olympic.
He said his competitive drive means he will accept nothing less than a win in every match he contests.
“I always want to win because I hate losing,” he said.
“I want to win the league and I won’t be going out to lose any games whether it’s a friendly, a cup game or any match really - I just can’t lose.”
Lee added he was already reveling in his return to the club’s Cleveland Showgrounds home ground, describing it as one of the best pitches in the competition.
“It’s always a nice pitch here. It’s not even the start of the season and it’s already very nice to play on.”
“It makes it a lot easier. You don’t have to worry about your first touch and you can already think two steps ahead before the ball even comes to you which is what I like,” he concluded.
Lee and Warden both featured in their side's 3-2 loss to Capalaba FC on Thursday night and are likely to figure prominantly in the upcoming BLK Silver Boot starting this week.
