A TRIO of Western Region Football League juniors have this week been signed by VFL premiership side Williamstown.
Altona’s Mitch Norton, who played a Division 1 game in 2015, former Werribee Districts youngster Brayden Monk and Yarraville Seddon Eagles’ rising star Lachlan Knight have all been given the chance to play with the Seagulls next season.
Knight has had a year to remember, winning the Western Jets’ Best and Fairest Award.
The 186cm midfielder played 23 games at TC Cup level, played VFL Development football with Williamstown and also played a Division 2 WRFL senior game this year.
Williamstown football manager Chris Dixon told the Seagulls’ website it was great to have Knight on board for 2016.
“Lachie played some Development football with us this year and showed his talent as a dynamic midfielder,” he said.
Norton got a taste of VFL footy this year after playing a match against Collingwood.
Dixon also spoke highly of the talented young gun.
“He won’t remember much of his senior debut with us this year as he was knocked out with concussion in a really courageous act,” he said.
“Mitch (Norton) is a highly skilled footballer that is capable of playing on-ball, on a wing or up forward.
“He is extremely talented and we’re delighted he is in our program.”
The 19-year-old played 37 games over three seasons for the Western Jets in the TAC Cup and played three games in Williamstown’s development team which included a qualifying final.
He was also runner-up in the Jets’ best and fairest count this season.
Meanwhile, Monk also got his chance to impress the Seagulls hierarchy when he played two VFL games.
He was also a member of Williamstown’s premiership winning development side.
Monk, who played all his junior football with the Werribee Districts, played for the Western Jets as a 19-year-old this year.
He had an impressive 2014 season with the Jets, winning the Barry Round Medal, the club’s best and fairest award.
“Monky (Braydon Monk) had a great impact this year playing two senior games and playing in the development premiership,” Dixon told the Seagulls’ website.
“He is extremely sharp around goals and extremely courageous for someone his size.”
