While Australian golfer Richard Green’s remarkable hole-in-one amazed fans around the world last week, one WRFL staff member also surprised many with his very own hole-in-one...no-one more stunned than himself.
Supporting league sponsor Lion Nathan in a special Golf Day event last Friday, WRFL Marketing Manager Peter Harley had no idea he was about to pencil in a one on his score card when arriving at the 11th tee.
Opting to reach for a hybrid-5, Harley managed to hole his drive on the 168-metre par three 11th at the Box Hill Golf Club.
After playing the sport for 40 years, Harley said it was something that was hard to describe.
“It was just surreal.
“I didn’t really see where it ended up initially but after walking up to the green and looking in the hole, I just couldn’t believe it.
“It’s something every golfer hopes to achieve one day, so despite the fact it’s been 40 years in the making, it was well worth the wait.”
