The Gap FC have confirmed Perth Glory Westfield W-League attacking utility Gabrielle Marzano will suit up for the club in their inaugural PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Open Women’s campaign.
The 22-year-old made 11 appearances primarily as a substitute for Glory as they raced to their first Westfield W-League Premiership this summer, and scored in the club’s Semi-Final win over Sydney FC.
Marzano played for Gators in last year’s SEQ Women’s Premier League prior to linking up with Glory and was previously part of the Centre of Excellence team in Townsville.
Despite not achieving state team representation as a teenager, Marzano said she didn’t let that stand between her and her dream of playing at the highest level of Australian domestic women's club football.
“I kind of take it as a pride thing now,” Marzano explained.
“It's nice to be an example to younger players that 'not being good enough' to make a state team in your school years doesn't equate to the end of your career - especially because I know how heartbreaking it is at the time.”
“I hope I can go further with the game and prove that even more,” she added.
Marzano said that deciding to return to Gators for the 2015 season wasn’t difficult.
“It was easy to make the decision to come to The Gap. The training was quality, the girls looked like a tight knit, supportive and fun group, and the team culture was exactly what I was looking for.”
“I knew some of the girls already from junior football and I ended up making some really great, lifelong friends.”
“I don't think I'll ever play for a different team in Brisbane,” she stated.
Marzano stated her aim for 2015 was to win silverware with The Gap before returning to Glory for the next Westfield W-League campaign.
“Our (Glory) coach, Jamie Harnwell, has given me homework for the off season so I certainly aim to improve tenfold as a player and be back playing for Perth Glory again this year,” she concluded.
The Gap commence their pre-season friendlies against fellow PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland newcomers Peninsula Power on February 1.
