Ruckmen again proved popular with the umpires with Sydney University’s Ryan Kennedy finishing strongly to win AFL Sydney’s Division Two Best and Fairest award.
It was a race of two between Kennedy and Blacktown Magic’s Daniel Lim in the back half of the count, with Kennedy claiming the count by two votes, finishing on 29 votes.
Interestingly, the player’s lined up in the Division Two Grand Final on the weekend which was won by Sydney University.
Kennedy polled 11 votes in the last four rounds and was named Best on Ground by the umpires on eight occasions.
There is no doubting Kennedy’s credentials given he played 12 games in Sydney University’s 2012 NEAFL campaign. He has played 116 games for the Students in total.
Kennedy’s win breaks Josiah Ayling’s strangehold of the Sanders Medal given the Camden star had won the award in 2012 and 2013.
Sydney University’s last winner of the medal was veteran Leigh McWhirter in 2008.
