On the eve of the first 2014 WRFL Grand Final match tomorrow, we hear from the two Senior coaches ahead of their big match this weekend.
FINAL WORDS FROM THE COACH- DEER PARK
After our 2013 premiership success, the club has always been building to establish itself as regular final participants so that we can continue to fill up our trophy cabinet. We have an extremely hard working committee and networking database that has enabled us to bring some high profile recruits to the club in Ryan Houilhan, Brent Guerra, Brett Thornton and Ryan Hargreaves, while also keeping a keen eye on our future where we have promoted our juniors with Spiros Amarantidis and Sohrob Ismail playing senior games of football this year. We have managed to play 37 players for the year and touch wood have only sustained the one season ending injury to Luke Guerra in Rd 6. We are very confident that we have the game plan and personnel that will be able to stand up and deliver us a premiership on Grand Final day. On the back of an undefeated regular season, we are full of confidence that we have done all the work that is required and the players are fit and ready to do whatever it takes to lift the premiership cup. I would like to thank all of the Deer Park supporters for the fanatical support throughout the season; this game represents not only the players but all people who bleed the blue and gold. Every player and volunteer who has been a part of the team in one way or another in 2014 are represented by the 22 that are chosen to go and bring us back the premiership cup.

FINAL WORDS FROM THE COACH- SPOTSWOOD
I have been at the Spotswood Football Club all my life. This is my first year of coaching, so I am delighted that we are into the Grand Final. I knew to expect the unexpected but nothing can really prepare you for your first year as coach. I would say that it has been a great mental challenge, but an extremely rewarding one at that. In a way we expected to go deep into the finals race, so for that to come to fruition is fantastic. As always, injuries play their part in any season. But we are so lucky to have great support in the way of trainers and medical staff that we have been able to rebound from those injuries. And we have also seen some great promise from our youth to step up and fill some pretty big roles. Our team has become really settled over the past six weeks where we have played some of our best footy. We have drawn confidence from the amount of work we have done on the track and development of several key players. Naturally, the boys can’t wait for the match to get under way. I think it has been a bonus for us to have played in each week of the finals. It does come with added pressure of course, but what better way to prepare for a grand final than to be under pressure each week of the finals. Our recovery structures and training sessions have gone according to plan and we must now execute on the big day. As coach and on behalf of all the players we would like to make mention of our sponsors, diligent administration, training staff and supporters who’s efforts make the Spotswood Football Club what is, a proud and successful, family club.
