It’s a new coach, new president and new beginnings for the Altona Football Club, as President Brendan Post explains how his club is tracking over the pre-season.
Number of teams this year:
3x teams- Senior, Reserves, Under 18s
Pre-season News:
Despite the extreme heat we have had over the summer months, we have had really good number to pre-season training which is pleasing to see and great for team bonding.
Our U18 team has particularly had very good numbers and is looking very competitive for the coming season. Training is at Grant Reserve 6.00pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings- New Players are always welcome.
We have also recently been at Masters Hardware store in Williams Landing manning the BBQ fundraising for the club in the pre-season. Organised by the BBQ kings John Ashcroft and Igor Vivoda these days are very important to keep fundraising happening over the summer season.
Expectations for 2014:
To consolidate the club’s financial position and be competitive on the field for a spot in the finals.
Staff/coaching changes:
Josh Russo will be our Senior Coach this year, whilst Brett Miller and Kevin McDonald will be our Reserve coaches.
Any young players to look out for this season?
Billy Ward:Moving up from the Under 18 ranks last season, Billy had his first taste of senior football with the Reserves, playing more than a dozen games and named in the best on two occasions. In 2013, Billy also gained some experience in the senior squad playing three matches for the year. Playing all 125 career games in the purple and gold, Ward will go from strength to strength this year and is one to look out for in season 2014.
