Captain: Ryder
Special Efforts:
- Jake, with a solid 4 quarter game, which included many tackles and lots of skilful possessions.
- Mitchell for some great attack on the pack, and quick kicks or handballs to the teams advantage, rewarded with the oppositions medal.
- Sam for some really good work in tight, and breaking free and running with the ball before kicking long.
- Paddy as above with Sam, and for his continued hard tackling, and nearly scoring a goal for us.
- Tadgh, Cam, Max & Jack for playing a ¼ each for the opposition.
For the first time I think this season we had a full complement of 18 players. Unfortunately for us, the opposition only had 16 players, so we had to lend a player to them each quarter. The boys were encouraged to this week start the game well, unlike previous weeks, but with lady luck not favouring us, we lost the toss and were kicking against a fairly strong breeze. The opposition had it in their forward line for most of the quarter, but our backs and on ball players, competed really well to make things hard for Bulleen / Templestowe. Come the 2nd quarter, our style of play kicking wide to a leading teammate who is calling for the ball, and tackling hard and manning up the opposition when they have the ball wasn’t anywhere near as good as it has been earlier in the season. The boys unfortunately were asked to lift their efforts for the next quarter, of which we would be playing into the wind. I’m pleased to say there was a greater effort by all, and the mistakes made earlier were somewhat rectified. At the last break the team was asked for a big effort in the last to try and kick a goal. We then played our best footy for the day, with a few points being scored, (oh so close to a goal), with a much better attack on the footy, and a fair bit more accountability when the opposition had the ball. Late in the last quarter I stood back some 50m away from the play which was on the wing, and watched about 8 of our boys compete over a few minutes for the ball, with some quick kicks and handballs, and many tackles, with any opposition possessions always under pressure. The fact it was so late in the game, but the team was still giving it their all, despite the other team having outscored us, was very pleasing to watch from afar with no instructions being given. One more game to go, let’s make it a good one.
