Shortly after helping the Wildcats to victory over the High Park Demons this past weekend, Hamilton Vice Captain Justin Settle boarded a plane set for "Oz" along with the rest of the Northwind members, to represent Canada at the AFL International Cup in Melbourne, Australia.
The 2011 International Cup build up is really starting to gain momentem as the worlds' AFL community prepare to compete in the largest ever international tournament held by the AFL, spanning across two weeks in both Melbourne and Syndey from August 12-27. AFL Canada will be sending both the men's National Team, Northwind, and the women's National Team, the Northern Lights, to Australia to compete in the 2 week competition. The tournament will be played at the newly constructed Blacktown Olympic Park Stadium west of Sydney's CBD and at Royal Park, the home of previous International Cup games in Melbourne. The men's grand final will be at the MCG as a curtain raiser to an AFL Match on August 27.
The Hamilton Wildcats AFC would not only like to wish our Northwind & Northern Lights teams the best of luck down under, but also to Wildcat Vice Captain Justin Settle; who no doubt will be lighting it up against the worlds' best amature competition and representing the "red & white" with pride. All the best "Setts", and we look forward to following your progress, as well as the rest of Team Canada over the next 2-3 weeks.
