After openning the 2011 season with a big win over the talented Toronto Rebels, things dont get any easier for the 'Cats as they now get set to face perenial powerhouse, the Etobicoke Kangaroos (NR) on Sat., May 14th/11 at Margaret Green Park in Guelph, ON. The teams are set to clash this Saturday, with a 9:30am openning bounce, and will definitely be a big test for the upstart Wildcats (1-0)!!!
Round #2: HAMILTON WILDCATS (1-0) v ETOBICOKE KANGAROOS (NR)
Venue: Margaret Green Park, Guelph (9:30am start)
Map/Directions: https://websites.mygameday.app/club_info.cgi?c=1-7394-110437-0-0&sID=160735
2010 OAFL Record: Hamilton Wildcats (4-9), Toronto Rebels (11-3) - Kangaroos won season series (1-0).
Key Additions: Hamilton - new Head Coach Matt Lowry, rookies Brendan Major (kicked 2 goals in 1st OAFL game last week), Stephen Dostal (kicked 2 goals in 1st OAFL game last week), Sean DiRago, Alex Pawliwec, Drew Dupras, Gary Hessmer, Connor & Mitch Lowry. Etobicoke - several former players have come back into the fold, with Aussies Dusty Allen & Justin "Chippa" Harris returning for 2011.
HAMILTON Strengths: A new game-day routine with an experienced coach has definitely helped the 'Cats start off the 2011 on a high note, and will keep the Club in many more games this season. Good height in many key positions across the oval, with 6 players 6'4" or taller, help the Wildcats to many of the one-on-one battles in the forwardline & backline. After a very successful off-season, the Canadian & Australian recruits joining the Wildcats this season have already left their mark, as the Club is coming off a 118-33 victory in Round #1 versus the Toronto Rebels. Hustle & heart are keys to the Wildcats attack led by veteran players Nick DiRago, Luke Lombardini & the Lowry twins (Connor & Mitch); while the backline tandem of Justin Settle, Justin Johns, Drew Dupras, Steve Assel & Michael Visser look to be one of the best in the OAFL this season...and you know what they say, "defense wins Championships"!!!
KANGAROOS Strengths: Always one of the strongest teams in the OAFL, with quality Canadian & Australian recruiting. Depth is a huge strength for the 'Roos, as just when it seems that 1 or 2 star players may not make the trip, 2 or 3 more quality players step-up to the plate, so-to-speak. A very good running team all over the ground, with one of the league's best forward lines, lead by 2010 OAFL Leading Goalkicker Travis McKenzie. But, if you think stopping this team is as easy as stopping T-Mac...think again, as Etobicoke has many scoring weapons all over the ground and a solid backline with good height and experience.
Round #1 Prediction: Hamilton Wildcats def. Etobicoke Kangaroos 71-66
C'arn the WILDCATS!!!
