This past Thursday on Canada Day, 5 Hamilton players trade-in the "Yellow & Black" of the Wildcats to represent their respective Countries in the Annual Northwind v Australia All-Stars match. The Hamilton Wildcats AFC would like to congratulate Brett "Nuts" Aiken, Michael "Vissa" Visser, Daren "Steppo" Stepien & Tim "Bulldog" Wilson who were all chosen to represent Australia, with Wildcats President "Bulldog" being selected to captain the Aussie All-Star squad on the day; while star defender Justin Settle was selected to represent Canada. Nuts & Steppo both received 1st time selections to the Australian All-Star squad, while Settle was also making his first appearance for Canada, pulling on the "maple leaf" and starting in the backline for the Northwind. Congrats to Aiken and Settle for also receiving votes and being named in the best on the day, as Australia continued their winning streak on Canada day v the Northwind with a very close 17point victory over a much improved Canadian side. It was great to see so many Wildcats not only being named to the All-Star teams, but also making such an impact in this great game on the OAFL's best!!!
The Club would also like to recognize Wildcat veteran Nick DiRago for being selected to start in the OAFL veterans v OAFL Rookies game earlier that same day. This was a first for the league, and after a fantastic showing from several OAFL rookies and vets (8+seasons), an annual match as curtain raiser for the All-Star game definitely looks to be set for years to come. Well done Nicky, congrats on the selection as well as for a cracker of a goal from 50m. Great to see so many Wildcats representing our Club in so many different games through out the day. This definitely speaks volumes for the fantastic coaching we have here in Hamilton, strong talent base from rookies through to our veterans, as well as incredible passion for this great sport by so many of our members.
Kudos boys.
