This was a huge game against the top team played on Glen Waverley's enormous home ground. The first quarter was magnificent as we showed we could match it against the best. In fact we had 60-70% of the play in the quarter but failed to capitalise on this dominance. Matt Yeo found space and a perfect pass from Tom Thorn gave us our first goal. Nick Lovett was a real terrier winning plenty of the ball and found Reuban by himself for our second. We were confident at the break that we could keep the momentum going.
Nick Edwards and Fraser were on fire winning the hard ball all over the ground. Our big guys Jordan, Reuban and Jamie were also on top and David Anderson was typically cool under pressure. Tom Thorn kicked the first goal of the quarter following some good work from Marc D and Luke. It was goal for goal in a real tight match when Rory snapped a beauty off the front of a pack. We went to the ½ time break only 2 points down and playing some great footy in front of an appreciative crowd.
Unfortunately we dropped off the pace a little in the last half as the guys tired on the large ground. The home team played more direct football with quick breaks straight down the middle where we tended to waste our hard earned possessions out wide. Glen Waverley earned their 4 goal win however the pleasing thing was we never gave up and fought the game out to the end.
The boys are to be congratulated on their game today, hopefully this excellent performance will set us up for the remainder of the season including the Finals.
