In a confident display the Mayne Tigers beat Coolangatta at Coolangatta by five goals that maybe should have been a bigger margin. Once again the Tigers showed their toughness in defending their lead after going ahead by 3 clear goals at half time. They easily matched the Coolangatta squad for the rest of the match and in fact slightly edged ahead in both of the final two quarters.
In the first term it was an even contest and one that Mayne eventually just edged out their opponents to have a 2 point lead by quarter time. The second quarter was a good term for the Tigers as they kicked away scoring 5 goals to one and thus getting to a winning margin.
The rest of the game was tit for tat on the score board but Mayne were having the better of the exchanges as David Gardiner and Luke Ferguson took over in the ruck and Brad Johns was having a field day in the goal square, kicking 6 goals for the day.
It is now 4 wins from the past 6 games and a real test to come this weekend with the home fixture against Noosa to start off the second half of the season.
Score:
Mayne Tigers 2 -3 7 – 7 12 – 11 17 - 13 115
