The cougars were host to North Ringwood this week as they were seeking to notch up their first win of the season in all 3 grades after a disappointing start to the season against Upper Ferntree Gully. Upper proved too strong on their home turf in round 1 and were deserved winners on the day. We look forward to our next encounter later in the year.
As Round 2 was the first home game for the year, all the boys were determined to make up for the disappointment of round 1, with the attitude around the club being very positive.
The seniors started off well, getting on top early in the midfield with big Patty Murph giving us first use of the footy in the ruck. The cougars kicked the first few goals with North Ringwood kicking a few later in the term to bring the margin back. The second quarter saw us kick away again with Dukesy, Doughta and Choco proving a headache for the North backmen and our midfield dominating. North Managed to peg the margin back before half time and keep themselves in the game after the cougars established a handy lead halfway through the term.
North Ringwood started the 3rd term off strongly kicking a few unanswered goals and htting the lead at one stage, but as the boys kicked a few to hit the lead again it was all the cougars from there. The last quarter was dominated by the Cougars with Hammer, Brabes, Kit and Kerr dominating in the midfield as they had all day and Josh Gordon and Starky solid down back. A special mention to Dan Gordon to on the wing as he is proving a handy recruit for the club. The boys run out 55 point victors in the end, with a great team effort by all. Well done to North Ringwood, good luck next week!
The story was not quite the same for the reserves as Leeroy's mob were over run by North in the last term after keeping within a couple of goals for most of the day. Dave Trueman was marking strongly and young Timmy Thomas played well showing his potential in his first year up from the under 18's. Scotty Dale did his chances of senoir selection no harm with another good game, but North Ringwod proved too good running out 34 point winners in the end.
It was also great to see Wayne De Visser back out on the field after missing the whole 2008 season due to illness. Wayne played his second game for the season in the reserves and is slowly easing himself back into the rigours of football. It's great to have you back Wayneo! Good Luck!
The Under 18's also lost, with North Ringwood leading for most of the day . Coach Robbo is doing a fantastic job with the boys continaully improving each week. With the numbers at training and improvement each week, a win is surely around the corner.
This Week the boys head out to Mooroolbark in what will be, given the results from previous years, a great match. A bit of rivalry between the 2 clubs ensures a great game for all spectators. Good Luck boys! let's take home the points!
