Today's game against East Ringwood was important in the fact they were a top four side and Tom was eager to put some distance between ourselves (3rd) and East Ringwood (4th). A win today would see the Blues outright third. With the much awaited clash with Bayswater only a fortnight away, the Blues are showing great form and most teams in the competition would see us as a genuine threat.
The first quarter went to plan. Spearheads Jellis and Hartfield dominated the forward line and made the most of every opportunity. The Blues midfield kept the supply coming into the forwards. The centre clearances went the Blues way for most of the first half which allowed us to control the game with scoreboard pressure and East Ringwood were never in it.
The Waverley backline were rock solid. Jacko, one of our best players. He was disaplined enough the play tight on his opponent and was prepared to run off and be creative. Another good game by Diesel and Chilli, with MJ at Fullback being the miser he is, not allowing his opponent a touch for three quarters. Kouta looked great playing loose in the backline and was given the responsibility of designated kicker. All three of his kick-ins were put on a players jumper ( the jumpers did look similar). Keep the good work going Kouta, don't be too hard on yourself, be positive. Chopper is another player who is back to his finals form from last season. He was prepared to run, took some risks and switched the play on several occasions and opened up the game.
Coach Mulholland asked the players for extra effort in the last quarter and must have been pleased with what he saw. The boys are really combining well and are keen to play finals again this year. Lets get the double chance!!!
As a sure sign of the the closeness of this team was the Family Night function. All players who attended were sitting at the same table talking about the game and generally having a laugh. All players were in their club jackets (Bongo??) and looked like a team. Well done boys.
