The Blues were keen to add another scalp to their list of victories, and Knox were another standing in our way. After last weeks victory against an under-manned Boronia, the Blues were in the 4 for the first time this season, and very keen to stay there, so a win today was vital by all concerned.
From the opening bounce it was obvious that the Blues were focussed and their skill level was far superior than their opponents. Beau Jellis and Robbie Hartfield opened the scoring with goals from set shots as the Blues led easily into the first term. The Blues midfield were winning every centre clearance and without some missed opportunities could have easily been 6 or 7 goals up at the first break. Feary, K.Smith combined well and set up many excursions forward which resulted in goals. JJ performed well in the ruck, Deisel Desim worked hard and kicked a goal from 35 metres to give the Blues a handy lead.
The second term started as the first finished, goals to Hartfield and Jellis. Our backline was never threatened thank to some great defence by Mulholland, Reyment and Macaulay. Coach Mulholland had the interchange steward working overtime and kept making the changes required to come up with the right formula and with victory evident many players had opportunities to play several positions and gain experience in these positions. Chilli Challman continued his great form with another good performance and Heater Wright playing in his 100th game played his best game this season and should have featured in the votes. Chopper Cincotta was prepared to run all day and created many opportunities in the back half.
The last quarter it was obvious that the Blues were the fitter side, with nearly all players having a full pre-season, over-ran their opponents and cruised to a comfortable win and cement their position in the top 4.
Some credit should go to Knox who were under manned and without a bench for the entire match. They continued to work hard and had several good players. Also well done to Big al in his 50th match.
The Blues meet East Ringwood next week at home and should be strenthed with the return of Sewell,Jeffries, Sugar Smith and Swooper Hartfield will be better for the run this week and Hansie won't be far away (3 weeks).
Well done boys-Go Blues
