The Mayne Tigers have notched their 5th win of the year in dishing out a 65 point victory over the Maroochy – Northshore Roos on Saturday at Everton. After a typically slow start where the Roos came out blazing with the first 3 goals of the game, the lads responded and lifted their work rate and intensity and gradually overcame the boys from the beach. 18 year old Aaron Whitecross led the charge with 12 disposal and 8 tackles in the second quarter alone and finished the game with 2 clever goals. Tye played well in a variety of positions in a strong return to form and captain Caleb led the team brilliantly in Andrew’s absence.
Generally though it was the entire team’s pressure on their opponents after quarter time that paved the way for the win in a classic all round effort. With this type of application in the final two games of the year we should see the lads right in the mix to upset our more fancied cross town rivals.
Was pleasing to see a number of the Maroochy lads hang around for a beer after the game in a tradition that is sadly lacking amongst a number of other teams in the PHC. We look forward to renewing acquaintances again next season.
We now play Sandgate at home on Saturday.
See you there
