In a fantastic day for the club, both the senior and reserve grade sides ran out convincing winners against Springwood on Saturday whilst the under 18s just missing out on making it a hat trick going down to a strong Noosa combination by 4 points. The ones dominated the second half against a plucky Pumas outfit in delivering a 66 point hammering and the twos ground out an impressive 7 goal victory.
New reserves coach – Bill Armstrong – started off in the best way possible putting together a strong side that played well as a unit and displayed some terrific passages of football. Pebbles showed a clean set of heels in kicking 4 clever goals whilst the midfield trio of Watto, Spud and Trent combined well around the ground to provide plenty of ball to the forwards. Cody Bird had his best game of the year playing with plenty of dash and Maso was his usual effervescent self across half forward. The win was just reward for all the boys who stuck with the team over the hard times and showed faith in Duncan and Bill to turn things around – and with more hard work on the training track more wins will come in the second half of the year. Well done fellas!
In the late game, the senior side was jumped early by a more enthusiastic and committed Puma outfit which showed plenty of endeavour and run and won the first quarter leading 30 to 17. The boys slowly worked themselves into the game to take a slender lead at the main break. A couple of positional changes saw the Tigers break the game open in the 3rd quarter kicking 8 goals to 2 and then piled on a further 7 in the last. To their credit Springwood managed a further 4 in the last quarter with a few younger players shining in particular young Thompson who covered the ground well and Tronc who was a thorn all day in defence.
It was simply magnificent to see Dale and Ricky Nolan back in the Tigers stripes and both had huge games. Ricky’s tap work was first class and every possession of Dale’s was gold plated. Azzap had a fine game out of a back pocket, Corbin and Whitecross were dynamic as small forwards and Corey was creative off a forward flank. The usual suspects in Tye, Brownie and Mark D played well and Andrew’s 6 goals was his best return of the year. After 3 weeks out with a broken jaw Jimmy’s return at centre half forward was a huge success racking up over 35 possessions and topping the tackle count. Welcome back Rabbit!
We now join a log jam of teams on 4 wins shaping this week’s encounter with the Magpies as a huge game for the Tigers
See you on Sunday at Everton
