In our worst performance of the year Mayne were smashed by a hungrier and more physical opponent in Burleigh down the coast on Saturday. Down 5 goals at halftime the boys were listless in the second half as the Bombers ran riot kicking 18 goals to extend the winning margin to an embarrassing 20 goals. Burleigh showed more intensity, ran in numbers, hit their targets, dominated the centre clearances and had winners up forward – effectively putting on a display of “finals footy”. We will have a week of soul searching to find out which players are prepared to be given another chance this Sunday when we take on PBC at home.
Tye Morrison and Luke Ferguson worked hard all day whilst Tom Rossignuolo played his best game for the year.
In the reserves, the Tigers – with 10 players unavailable this week – played with only 17 players for the majority of the contest but managed to produce their best footy of the year. The lads played with courage, a never say die attitude and great spirit. The senior side would do well to learn from their efforts.
Sarge, Duncan and JD led the way whilst Pricey booted 2 goals up forward. We look forward to seeing further improvement in the coming weeks.
